Surely not a single crankshaft? There were one or two aircraft (Caudron lightweight fighter) with straight twelve engines. Overall a very unsatisfactory arrangement though. Two or more engines around a common crankshaft is crude but practical, a version of the Matra Simca Bagherra featured two blocks mounted side by side chain driving the crank.

It appears that he was using the factory crankshafts all connected together. I wondered if cylinder 1,5,9,13 would all fire at the same time and what effect that would have overall if not properly synched. He is using a chain drive, so each cylinder might fire separately. Not sure how this would work.
