Default Front wing quandary

I'm considering getting some new front wings fitted to my Amazon. There is bubbling around the headlights and along the top edge where the wing meets the bonnet. The inner wings are past their best and I'll probably get these done at the same time (I was told that they don't look too bad, but it's hard to tell until the outers are removed).

A local bodyshop who specialise in classics has quoted £350 per side for fitting & painting the outer wings which seems quite reasonable to me (they have a pair of Ferrari Dino's in at the moment so they know what they are doing!). The chap also quoted £300-400 per side to fit bottom sections and paint for my doors as they are bubbling in the usual places. They guarantee all their work for 3 years.

Basically, I'm facing a £2500 bill which is a LOT of money to me.

As I don't really want to sell my car I can (sort of) justify the money, but I'm still a bit worried. Do I cut my losses and sell her for 4 grand or so and take the bodywork money to buy something 'better' (always wanted an Amazon estate and I do love my Capri's), or do I take the plunge and go for it? The rest of the bodywork is pretty good with just the odd minor blemish in places. My missus and I are in the process of buying a house which has a garage so my car will no longer be living outside, which will certainly help look after the body a lot better.

So, what should I do?

Getting a decent estate might be the issue. PM Adam (swedishandgerman)as he’s looked at a few estates that are about and might be able to offer some advice whether there are any decent ones about at the moment. You might end up buying an estate for more money and still end up with bodywork costs on top so it might be better the devil you know.

Very true… and I know my car is totally solid underneath which counts for a lot in my book.

If the rest of the body is good, then whilst not cheap, £2.5K isn't that huge a sum to get everything up to scratch (compare it to the depreciation if you bought something new) especially if you are going to keep the car for quite a few years longer. As for estates, when I had the nearside rear quarter on my estate reconstructed a few years back, the labour bill for that (not including paint and I supplied the repair panels), was over £2K - the rear end structure on the estates is so much more complex (with correspondingly more involved repair work required when rusty) than the saloons, and the lower side valance and one mudflap mount are the only estate specific repair panels available.

I would spend the money on what you have. With the doors I would opt for a full skin, It works out as about the same amount of work as fitting a lower half but will be a better job at the end of the day

Thanks for all the advice... decided to go for it!

I'm going to call the bodyshop tomorrow and see when the work can be done. I realised the other day that as the Euro is relatively weak against Sterling, ordering wings from Skandix rather than Brookhouse save almost £200 (including delivery)!

I'm also going to have the inner wings replaced at the same time as it is not a massive amount more work and if I'm having something done I'd rather do it properly.
