Default Power tailgate failure

My power tailgate has stopped working. It has been playing up for a while not always opening when the switch on the tailgate was pressed. It has also sounds quite noises when opening. I have watched a video on you tube which seems to show similar problem and is cured by 2 new struts.

I have removed the auto closing module that some of us purchased through the group buy but this has made no difference. When you press the tailgate switch to open or close you can hear a clicking sound in the module but nothing happens. Incidentally that had melted some of the heat shrink insulation so must have been getting quite hot!!!

Any ideas or suggestions on what this might be, or do I have to splash out on 2 new struts at about £250 each?

Thanks in anticipation for your responses.

I think mine is also heading that way. When opening, it drops by 5cm.

It's a really great thing to have, I find mine very useful. However it suffers from the "something else to go wrong" syndrome of fancy gadgets on modern cars

I think these motorised struts work hard and I reckon they're good for about three years in regular use.........not sure if they're serviceable

I also had some very strange noises on mine and in desperation I sprayed some Q20 on the strut / body mounting points (hinge points). This cured the noises!

Thanks for the replies guys.

It is booked into the dealers on Monday. Will probably mean 2 new struts and be quite expensive but a much poorer car without them.
