Rear Suspension - sitting low

Hi,

I noticed that my 760 Turbo seems to be sitting low at the rear, but only if its been parked up for a while. If you have been driving it then it sits normally as if there isn't a problem.

The issue is of course if you have a few people in the cabin and a boot full, then it sits low all of the time, and even knocks the exhaust in multistory car parks.

Im not sure if it needs replacing, tho i would imagine it would help the handling if the whole lot was done!

Any suggestions or even a diagnosis?

This is a 1989 760 Turbo Saloon with Multi-link rear suspension. Im not sure if its self levelling though i would think not.

Your Nivomats are starting to sag, however as long as they pump themselves up satisfactorarily within a mile or two thjen there is no need to panic just yet. Nivomats are made by Boge who are now part of the ZF empire. The catalogues are available through the ZF site (which is still reachable via Google for Sachs/Boge. Unfortunately Nivomats are rather expensive at £135 each from German, Swedish & French and £137.50 from eurocarparts. The facelift 760s are not listed with an equivalent standard shock shock absorber as the Nivomats are a three bolt fixing on these cars. If I can remove them I have a low mileage pair sitting in my garage, still attached to my 760 GLE Turbodiesel. If they are of use to you let me know, I won't charge an astronomical price for them. I am about to fork out for a pair for my 945 SE 2.4 as they are just starting to sag (but on one side). In all cases of Nivomat suspension (self-levelling) it is best to replace them in pairs.
