Many thanks. Actually, I'm thinking the problem is indeed a SENSOR problem, not a locking problem per se; Only when the system indicates that the passenger side door is 'open' does the central locking system as well as the light inside malfunction; If I open and close the passenger door (sometimes a few attempts are needed), everything including central locking system works fine.
Is the sensor built into the microswitch or..?

The door open micro switch is built into the lock unit (hence why you replace the whole thing).

If the switch does not make proper contact then the door appears to be open which is why the interior light comes on and the lock will not stay locked. When it happened on my previous V70 I did a temporary fix by identifying the micro switch wires in the loom in the door and shorting them together.

My 2008 XC70 has the Door Open Message that won't go away. The dealer quoted me $485 for installing this part: 31253657

I can buy the part online for $130, and am willing to install it myself.

Can anyone validate the part number, and offer any advisories for the job?

Thanks -

RRR

My 2008 XC70 has this problem. The driver's door shows open even when closed. The door switch that is stuck open is evidently in the lock actuator, which is in by the latch. My Volvo dealer has quoted me $485 to replace the part. They said it is this part: 31253657

I have another quote from an independent shop for $370. And still another will let me buy the part online and bring it in and they'll charge me $100 to put it in. (They are a trusted body shop, so I believe they can do this job.) I can buy the part from Prts.com for about $126 plus shipping.

Until recently - I was set to go for option three, but I just watched a YouTube video of a guy taking the door panel off, and it looks pretty easy. I was afraid of butchering the door panel during removal but I think I can do it.

My questions are these:

Can anyone validate that this is the right part to fix the problem?

Does anyone have any tips to make the job go smoother?

Thanks -

This part of the forum is for up to 2007. Yours is a 2008. For the correct information, you need to post on the 2008 onwards section Linked Here.

Working on the same problem, after a wreck, I put 2004 front and back passenger doors on my 2007 S60, now that open door indicator will not go off. I tried putting back the original latch, no change. Any ideas here?

Sounds like you've got a problem with the wiring loom somewhere.

Default Possible?

Hi

No idea whether same sort of set up as new S60 or not but i had problem on 64 plate S60 D2. I was looking all over but discovered when slowly closing the door that at a point before door was closed, warning went away and light would go off. That problem was the wiring that goes into the door and a latch connector had come unclipped...

No idea whether its same on old style S60 i now have or not as its dark outside but possibility of similar?

Just a thought!

just a question, nothing do with locking car, only opening and closing door, is it the door latch on opening and closing that triggers the door open/closed sign on the dash.. have light on all the time as well.
