I don't disagree with your logic. Apologies for maybe being lazy and not searching, but do you have a link to the instructions for changing the gearbox oil myself?

First thing I did when I bought my 2005 170k D5 (5 speed) was change gearbox oil, alas mine was too late, the oil was burnt & had no properties left in it & I had a whiny 4th gear & now a replacement gearbox being fitted as it completely failed a week ago.
I understand yours will be the better tf80 6 speed, but I would at least check the state of it- if you cannot find any proof of an oil change.

But I forgot to add, that’s a lovely car! A great buy imo & a bargain.

The quest to find the washer for the door lock continues. I contacted a few scrap dealers via eBay. A few never bothered to answer, one said they only sell the washer with the door locks, and another quoted me £12.50! The stainless steel washer option is looking more and more appealing...

Greedy eBayers aside, everything is going well with the XC90. The detailing people did a great job as stated above, and here are some pictures to show. They’re taken from the company’s Facebook page.

And the A pillar afterwards

Ultragloss of Peterborough did the work and I’d recommend them. http://www.ultragloss.co.uk

Following the deep clean I installed the child seats and seat protectors and various other family car accessories (such as a bin) and this morning we all went to under 7’s rugby in it in much comfort. I must add the fold down boot door made a great seat to plonk the kids on to allow boots and waterproofs to be taken on and off.

The navigation discs have been ordered and should arrive next week, as has a tickle charger to keep the battery topped up during the process.

Any further ideas/how-tos on how to check/change the gearbox fluid myself? With my old S80, while I never did it, I was aware of a method where you pump the oil out from the dip stick tube and refill the same way. However I’m not sure I even have a gearbox dip stick on my car so any advice or expertise would be gratefully received.

Thanks for looking, as always.

As for the door washer trim piece: don't discount going to Volvo for a new part.
A small piece like that will cost very little and will save a lot of headache and time trying to hunt one down second hand.

Someone on this forum said they had some for sale from a scrapped car, which I followed up.
He said he'd send some to me.
He didn't ask for any money for them, but unfortunately it seems the sae I sent to him with a Fiver inside for his kindness didn't make it the 30 miles back to me

Oh man, that’s even worse than my £12.50 eBayer! At least I wasn’t out of pocket. What did the forum member say when you challenged him on the whereabouts of your envelope?

Just said he'd sent it the day he received it from me.
Some mail does get lost in the post.

I know it isn't a major problem, but when the rest of the car is well looked after you cant help but notice it's absence

Easy little job. I polished my exhaust tip (which sounds like a euphemism for something but isn’t).

Twenty minutes with some Autosol and elbow grease and the results are very satisfying and improve the looks of the rear of the car no end.

Before...

After...
