Question Volvo S40 SE sport 05 Plate 2.0D General Advice needed.

Hi All,

I'm new to this site and wondered if i could ask general advice about my potential next purchase.

I'm looking at the S40 SE Sport 2.0 Diesel on an 05 plate for £5,795, with 99k miles. 1 owner full volvo service history..,

It has the heated leather seats, heated elec mirrors, elec drivers seat, cruise control climate control. So fairly spec'd...

I have a few questions really...

1) What's kinda mileage will this car do before any major work is needed?

2) Is it possible to get an aux in kit so that I can use my iphone and listen to music off that? (it has a parrot kit installed for nokia, not sure if that can be modded)

3) Has anyone had the 2.0D Rica Chipped? If so what combined MPG do you now get and is the 0-60 quicker?

4) What things can you do with a diesel engine to help reduce noise? ie oils etc?

Hi

The parrot should be compatable with most bluetooth phones, I have the Parrot mki9200 and works great.

There are a few posts on here about re-maps on diesels, see 'to tune or not to tune'.

It should have had a cambelt change by now. Take a good look under the car for oil leaks.

I thought the cambelt wasnt due on the 2.0d till 130000 miles?

I have a 2.0d with a tunit tune box and it has increased the torque loads and i have seen a slight increase in mpg.

No major issues to speak off apart from a few electrical gremlins. ABS pumps seems to suffer and the door connectors needs seeing to once in a while.

I have a 2.0d sport owned by me for a couple of years with only issues being door connectors and i think a dodgy abs pump which may need replacing/rebuilding. Im interested to know what the cambelt change is on the 2.0d?????

I know I said the dealer said it had a parrot in. (I did joke about this due to the way he said it) I'm not too sure if it is a parrot... It had a nokia cradle above the stereo, some sort of small speaker in the top right and a square speaker thing in the driver foot well. Is this a parrot? I know it had a cd changer... Can this be changed for a DVD changer as an alternative to getting the iPhone to work?

Doesnt sound like a parrot to me as they connect to the connections on the stereo, using the cars speakers for sound, not a seperate speaker.

Not sure on thr cambelt, sorry. I always assumed that most cars have them changed around 75,000 and as I own a petrol I couldnt say for sure. - Might be worth checking though.

Just a thought....

The advert mentioned the car had an alarm could that be what the small speaker like thing in the passenger footwell under the dash by the door is??

If so, maybe it is a parrot, I'm going over on Saturday so may ask more questions.

On a separate note, what are the first 5/10 things you would do after buying this car....

Any suggestions at all really.

I've considered privacy glass, iPhone linked up for music more than calls. Also thought Rica Chip and new FICA and pads.

Not had many issues with mine.

The S40 does handle like a wet Spaniel without upgrading the Rear Roll Bar.

Subtle tints will really improve the look, don't get it too dark on the back so it looks consistent, fairly light tint is best.

Get tints, IPD Rear rollbar, and Remap - you'll be a happy man

Before you get new pads - get the brake lines swapped for Braided ones, that makes a huge difference to the brake feel.

Strut Brace will also really sharpen up the front end loads, and will prevent axle tramp and transmission wind up, which you WILL get if you've remapped it when starting briskly. I think you can get a stock item (if not already fitted) and one is available from EST.

Make sure it's not on Pirelli P6000's or some other cheap ditch-finder tyres, the S40 seems sensitive to tyre choice - stick with a quality brand.

I would get it RAC inspected and any issues sorted out by the garage b4 purchase

Ok. I'm really keen on the rica idea what options do I have for brake upgrades?

Jonnieb2009 what does the RAC inspection look at? What price we talking and how much notice do you think they'll need as I plan on leaving a deposit on Saturday and perhaps collecting the following weekend.
