Just to add to this post, I have been using 2 stroke oil in my 850 TDI for months now. Quieter engine, and on initial usage an increase of about 3 mpg which has stayed there.

Not noticed anything with smoke, there's enough of that as it is with the TDI.

I have been told NOT to use semi-synth or synth for this purpose and to stick to mineral only oils.

With no DPF its good to use 2 stroke oil ,try to use an oil with the lowest residual deposist when burned
You also could use a few (cheaper) liters vegoil for lubrication instead of 2 stroke oil

Lightbulb diesel petrol all the same but different

diesel is diesel petrol is petrol (its like cat and dog food) some people believe that cat food and dog food are different we know its all the same but bigger chunks what-evers cheaper
