Before cleaning anything, I would be checking live data to see what the MAF and MAP are reading.
At idle, MAP should be around 14.5 psi and MAF should be around 13 g/s and both should then rise and fall in line with engine speed so check that first before doing anything else.

More important: Check the difference in desired airmass and desired boost with what is actually is generated (in vida you can read that out, but when you have no vida you can readout faultcodes wich will hint to a difference in desired and actual airmass)).
If the difference is to high you get limpmode due to boostleaks, vnt problems etc

Cheers for that guys, does anyone recommend a half decent code reader to invest in? I dont have loads of money left though after the turbo purchase if I'm honest lol. I've been using a friends generic orange thing that he said was good to use as it reads volvo codes. The only thing being it just reads codes and turns off airbag abs lights, there is no live data reader....

ELM327 dongle and the Torque Pro app was all I needed to get my D5 spot on.
Total outlay £8.

Yes ebay. The dongle is often less than £5 plus £3 for the Android app.

I think that's got to be my safest bet hasn't it. I will try and get hold of one them and then post the results up once I've scanned. In the meantime I think I'll leave the old girl on the drive as it's pointless driving it with no turbo. It feels like a snail on wheels at the moment and makes pulling out on roundabouts scary!

Just returned back home at around 9pm. I decided to start the old girl up and tinker under the bonnet. I managed to get the turbo to spool!!! Took it around the block and drove about 5 miles before the engine service required light came on. I did notice on boost that the turbo was whistling and that full boost wasn't achieved but much more power than yesterday, and after I turned the ignition back off and on again it came out of limp mode once again? So I have ordered the dongle as cheshired5 said l, buy in the meantime, would a split pipe or burst intercooler cause that kind of whistle and chutter sound when changing gear? I do have a cone filter on by the way I may have forgotten to mention that previously.

it's a chicken and egg thing. The overboost splits the pipe *and* opens the wastegate - the pipe is a symptom not a cause.

Hi Moorgate, which pipe are we talking about the fresh air to turbo or the black intercooler directly underneath the turbo?
Cheers
Dave
