Just bought a 99 V70 TDI with the later ECM msa15.8. Is this linked to the immo or interchangeable? It for sure has its ETM swapped because the VIN that Vida reads differs from the car's VIN.
Not 100% sure on the MSA 15.8 but I believe the immobiliser module is separate from the ECM on all P80's and once the key is recognised by the immobiliser module it will permit the engine to start. The IM may be coded to the ECU for engine type but I'll stand to be corrected on that.

I'd like to have cruise control and probably easier and cheaper to buy an ECM with CC activated than reprogram it at the dealer.
If I recall correctly these ECU/ECM's with CC were sought after as they were simply plug and play, which would confirm the above, but that may have been only for MSA 15.7

Afaik all x70 p80 cars the rf ring in thr key corresponds to the same denso unit in the dash cluster that the fob also talks to. I don't think it's ecu linked as have previously swapped ecu and car still drive and locked without me doing anything else. 1998 15.7.
15.8 mount be different.
The 1998.5 to 2000 me7 changes were only for petrol cars not diesels.
