Haldex and gearbox services
So, have tried to get both Haldex and gearbox serviced on my 2017 XC60 D4 AWD without success
No response from a gearbox specialist 70 miles from me or a local garage 3 miles away Tried another local garage that quoted just over £300 to do both. Booked in for today but just had a call to say that they can't do the work as there's nothing on their system for it! The Aisin gearbox is fitted to many different car models so I'm not sure what their manufacturers say about servicing but I do believe that VW require Haldex units to be serviced every 20k so can't really understand why the garage can't do it. Anyone had similar experiences? I'd expect this from Volvo but not independents

Came across this by chance - I normally frequent the V70 forums, but suspect my answer is just as relivant here as it would be in the other sections.
Short answer is I believe Volvo believe these items are all sealed for life....and require no maintaining. BUT in the V70 forums we have found out that sealed for life don't really work if you have picked up an older car, some type of servicing is required to maintain efficiency of components. Haldex usually involved a filter and oil change, but XC60 use a more modern haldex unit than XC70 and AWD v70's and I think one change was the design changed to do away with a haldex filter. The gearbox again is sealed for life but owners check the fluid colour and if not cherry red remove a couple of litres and replace with new at a couple of monthly intervals - these are usually newly aquired vehicles with a poor service record and the transmission oil is almost black. If you can juggle spanners, and don't have a Haldex filter changing the Haldex oil is simple ( filter change could be a nightmare) as is removing gearbox oil and replacing a couple of litres - youtube is your friend. Cheers & good luck Bob. |

Bob, all good advice particularly re the lack of filter on later Haldex units. As a result, the plastic filter on the pump itself gets far dirtier than those on the earlier units with a separate filter. The pump on the later Haldex can be removed without touching anything else such as prop or exhaust and it would b e very prudent to remove the pump and clean the integrated white plastic filter when changing the fluid. Check this out, I would remove the pump and check it as a matter of course https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...60+haldex+pump
