I would say it needs a good run to burn of excess fuel in exhaust system. High extended rpm without breaking it.

Not sure about the Idle being wrong on display... Laird Scrooby any ideas? Does the rev counter takes it pulses from coil or alternator?
Definitely needs a long, high sped run to burn the excess fuel out of the system including the catalytic converter.

The rev counter gets its pulses from the ignition coil -ve terminal. It's only diesels that take the pulse from the "W" terminal on the alernator to drive the rev counter.

Thing is, the HT leads being out of phase on the dizzy cap (as you suggested earlier) was the cause of the non-start, they were changed after the rbeakdown if memory serves so weren't the cause of the breakdown.
I'd be interested to see what happens if the original ignition amp module was plugged back in temporarily, i doubt it will start.

changed plugs again
Old plugs were full of soot after the first start. It runs rough and tells like turbo lag even though it’s not a turbo. Takes time for the engine to rev up.
I’m so happy it started

I’m planning to change fuel filter again. I compared the common rail fuel pressure on a B230fk and on my FD it’s the same pressure. But I’ll check my injectors and see.
The cat wil be full of unburned fuel, this will cause the emissions to be all over the place until you give it a long hot run to burn off the excess fuel in the cat.

After that long, fast run to do that, when you return and switch off, pull fuse #1 for at least 10 minutes, then refit it. This will clear the fuel trims and fault codes learned by the LH-Jetronic ECU whil it's been flooded with excess fuel.

I'd say there's no need to change the fuel filter again, plugs will self-clean with a long, fast run.

You have a spare set of leads now - but next time you change them, do them one at a time! Check it runs right after each one.

The leads weren't the cause of the breakdown, just an extra symptom you added in by mistake. or you wouldn't have been able to drive it to where it broke down.

Try unplugging the new ignition amplifier module and plugging the old one back in, i expect it won't start!

If not, you know your old module is dead. Plug the new one back in and confirm it starts and runs again. If so, throw the old one away so you aren't keeping faulty parts.

I reckon we've earned a beer in Norway if we ever make it that way.

What an interesting thread this had been to follow through to the end. I haven't got this level of knowledge to contribute anything but well impressed how people kept on making suggestions until the final breakthrough. Well done all.
