Default 12 volt socket not working

Hi going through a restoration project on my abused 2003 V40 Sport (109k). Minor inconvenience unable to get Garmin sat nav working using 12 volt socket. Checked in car fuse which is not blown. Strangely the cigarette lighter works, I suspect the centre contact of the socket is faulty. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can remove offending socket without dismantling centre Console before recourse to lining the local Volvo dealer (Grantham) pockets.

It's really really easy to remove, remove the rubber mat piece first, then pop the trim piece out, I was able to do so with my hands alone by pulling on the little tab in the back with my finger, then unclip the gear lever sock cover thing whatever it's called from it, then unplug the wiring connection, and finally use the palm of your hand to pop the unit out, it's in there pretty tight but will pop out, and you're done, it literally takes seconds

Just edited and added pictures, the socket on my T4 is dead so needs to come out anyway.

It's also worth noting that these cars are inherently Japanese and for that reason the cigarette socket is ever so slightly smaller in diameter than other vehicles, from memory ford vauxhall etc are 22mm whereas these are 21mm.
