That's encouraging. I did just check VIDA for the XC90 and it's the same, located on the exterior bulkhead under the drainage gully. I had a nasty feeling it would mean an interior strip out.
Certainly for the XC90, the expansion valve is an entirely self-regulating mechanical device, with no external control input. The only software-based control in the entire system is a go/no-go signal from the Climate Control Module to the compressor. |

Let me know if you change yours see what difference it makes.
I have read others that have changed it with mixed results it either fixed it or made it a little better, I did read somewhere about a pipe being replaced on a certain model.

I think i am going to order the expansion valve and see if it helps.
Does look an easy enough part to replace.

Should be done next week. I'll let you know how it goes. |

Fitted new valve.
Well there is still a difference in sound when the air con is started but not heard the bearing/roar noise I used to get when engine was revved up. Time will tell, was not to bad to change does help that I work at a garage with some very helpful mechanics.

I wish! I instructed the dealer (who already have the car with them) on the 15th and was told it would take 3 days for the part to come from Volvo Sweden. After chasing them yesterday I still haven't had any update on progress..
I'll update the thread when I get it back. Now you've had yours running a week or so, do you think it made a significant difference? |
