Depending on whether you go for a 163 bhp or a 185 bhp D5, it has about 60nm over a 2.5T Petrol.

Even the 2.4 T5 Petrol ( Glorious Engine ) cannot match a D5 185 for torque especially as the diesel delivers it at such low revs which is ideal for towing.

I've owned a 2005 XC70 D5 LUX (163hp) for over a year now. For a car that has 160k on the clock it drives and looks remarkably well. These cars are very well designed, engineered and built. As with all cars, it's important to have it regularly serviced and I'd recommend changing the oil every 5 or 6k miles. I've been to the south of France and back numerous times and it's never missed a beat. The D5 engine is robust and refined - of all the Volvo's I've owned, this is one of the best. I looked at petrol models but there are not as many about as the diesels - especially at the top end of the trim range.

I got a 2006 v70 D5 today.

Nice drive and in good clean condition.

Just one slight issue which is the swirl flap arm has come away and it’s quite oily around that area
