Default Do i have a sport edition?

So i picked this up locally, it has a 3.73 locker diff, auto box, lower front suspention, nivos, a spoiler, full black leather, A/C and galaxy wheels of course. Making me think its a sport edition. But its a year too new as far as i can tell and doesnt have turbo+

So im just wondering what you guys think?
Is it a sport edition that got left behind somewhere and wasnt registered till 97 or is it a high spec HPT dressed up as a sport edition?

Many thanks
Will vg

I think it was possible to have a new registration on an imported car but think you can only get an age related one now. If thats the case it could have been registered abroad and then brought back to the UK, depends when they stopped doing it.

The chassis code of the car will tell if it was built with the Sport parts on it, the Turbo + could have been taken off or not wanted when bought.

The auto ones didn't have turbo+, they're just the standard 165hp HPT. Unless the buyer requested otherwise, in which case the auto box was marked to show it no longer being covered by the warranty.

Thanks all for the helpful replys, ill have a look at the vin number when i get a min.

Next question then
What is it worth ?
Are the sport editions any noticably higher value compared to a nice SE HPT 940 ?

Not any idea on a sports value but I would just buy a 940 HPT and up the boost.

I certainly would look for a CD spec 940 as I believe this is the top spec with electric drivers seat etc and cruise control.

A sport edition if well specked and in good condition has to be a good buy.

They are worth as much as someone is willing to pay, not a great deal of help I know but having seen the values of these fluctuate greatly, it'll be better condition = more pounds

Default Sport?

The leather seats in the Sports were different, so pix of the front seats please. Not all Sports had the ALD (neither of mine has). Not all Sports had front chassis braces either. I've never before seen a Sport that did not have the eggcrate grill. I think the DEAD giveaway will be the Nivomat code in the VIN because a Sport should have one of three specific lower Nivos as well as lowered front suspension. Another helpful hint would be the trailing links in the front suspension (the ones from the lower arm to the saucer bushes) - there are three different lengths and one was specific to cars that came from new with Galaxies.

The 404RJ24 option code is correct for a Sports Edition and the T near the middle of the VIN indicates year of manufacture is 1996. Sports Edition was officially available from October 1995 for model year 1996 and P reg was from August 1996 so this all fits. First registration date in Jan 1997 suggests it was a late registration.
