Default clutch gone

Hi I am a newbie here, I have just got hold of a tidy1.8 V40 Estate that a friend will be using, but noticed the clutch is really bad, when I tried to drive it, the bite is so high theres no free play what so ever, I have ordered a new clutch, so whats involved in removing the gearbox on this model obviously I do know how to do a clutch on a FWD vehicle, but no two models are the same, its a hydraulic clutch. I checked the fluid level, and its ok, so is it worth bleeding the slave and master cylinder before I start removing bits in case its air in the system, but my suspicion is its the clutch because I tried engaging the hand brake putting the car into 2nd tried to pull away and the engine did not stall when it should have done Also one last question, if I don't have the right socket to undo the driveshaft nuts, can I just remove the hub , complete with driveshaft that way
