Default 340 carburettor problems

i have a 340GL which i recently bought. the carb was in a bad way so i stripped it and fitted a repair kit. now the choke works properly and the mixture leans out when crusing. the only problem i cant seem to fix is a strange one, basicaly sometimes when i pull up to a junction the car ticks over at 900rpm, which i set it to, at other times it can be anything between 400-600?. if i blip the throttle a few times i can usualy get the thing to go back to 900, or sometimes it will settle at 1200, its almost like the throttle plate is sticking. any ideas on where to look?

I also have had that problem but it was simply the carpet fouling the throtle pedal arm!
I suppose it could also be the throttle cable sticking slightly as the throtle action is very sensitive to this.

Hi Guys,

I have a similar problem with my carb. I recently had the carb professionaly overhauled and tuned using the weber kit. Ever since when stopping after a motorway run, the idle sits at about 1500rpm then gradualy drops back to normal in about a minute. I wonder if there is a fault with a component supplied in the kit ? I will investigate further and keep you posted.

Crunchie.
