Default Steering rack not pointing straight

My 360 GLE failed its MOT on amongst other things Steering, so I got a recon rack from OVLOV and got a garage to fit it for me as they were doing the welding and MOT anyway.

Anyway, firstly the garage fitted the rack connection to the column 180 degrees out and then tried to correct it by screwing in one track rod as far as it would go and then unscrewing the other side to get alignment. Not getting quite enough turn on it, they then moved the steering wheel round to get it straight.

I've after much cursing, switched the rack connection round the right way, and straightened the steering. However, when I set the toe-in roughly, if I set the track rods the same length on both sides, the steering wheel points about 35 degrees to the right. I'm thinking that the pinion gear in the rack is about 35 degrees out. Is there anyway to correct this. Or should I fudge it and put the steering wheel over a bit and be content with the steering lock engaged with the wheel over to the left by 35 degrees?

Many thanks

Andy

Centre the rack and wheels then remove/replace the steering wheel in correct aspect. Rather an easy job with the right tools.

All the best, Peter

Yeah, but then the steering lock won't engage with the wheel central. I suppose you're going to tell me to stop being so fussy now :)

Moving the wheel relative to the shaft should bring it into line as the lock acts on the shaft not the steering wheel.

Keep at it, mate, it will all come right in the end.

All the best, Peter
