I bet you don't see those old repair shops much these days. I used to work at one of those in Sweden in the seventies.
Those were the days when they actually looked and listened to the car instead of plugging in a computer. |

One thing I know about Swedes is that they're a bunch of petrolheads like us Aussies...

Enough of all these Amazons. How about a 1966 Volvo Duett. These were mainly used by the utility companies back in the day and they were pretty sought after in used condition for us Volvo nuts. They came stock with limited slip and 4:56 rear ratio. Fun on snowy Swedish gravel roads.
A plumber traded this car in at the dealership I worked on. I lobbied the boss for weeks so I could own it! |

I guess this might count as a road shot, because I did drive the car to its first track day.

Yeah, a lot of these Duetts met that fate. To explain: this is a very Swedish fenomenom. After the war the need for farm equippment exceeded supplies so the then generous Swedish government allowed farmers to cut down a car with a frame and make it in to a traktor. They had the wheel base altered (I recall 2.5 meters) and rear axle bolted to the frame and only firts and second gear could be used. First a lot of T Fords and model A cars were used but since the Duetts were frame based they were used i great numbers. Farm tractors could be driven at 16 years of age without a license and you could not drive a car until 18 so a lot of kids discovered that they can be used for transportation, myself included. When it was 20 C below and my competition had mopeds, who do you think got all the girls? Last edited by Roffeman; Nov 16th, 2013 at 14:06. |
