Its fine on the Volvo, Audi now have HD Matrix which looks amazing, This is Volvos first iteration so would hope with next gen 90 series it will be better.

This is partly my concern with Volvo. Technology is moving so quickly now in the car industry, and where Volvo seemed pretty bang on when they introduced the XC90 and first of the new generation cars in 2015, most other manufacturers are flying at the moment and now Audi and BMW make the Volvo tech look a little behind the times.

Volvo have traditionally had a pretty long life cycle with their models, so will it be many more years before we see some updates.

True, but like you said- just as volvo made a bang with the new tablet-like interface (and to my knowledge, 3 years later only Tesla offers a similar, uncluttered, buttonless instrument panel..), latest generation from german competitors has its own “bang”. It’s a cat & mouse game.

I would’t go as far as saying that Sensus is “behind times”. BMW’s MMI is (design-wise..) unchanged since 5-6 years ago. Granted it works well & is intuitive for use- but has an utterly boring 1990s design. Benz merely stretched the existing tablet across half of the dash- but still looks as if it was installed by the dealer, post delivery. In terms of use- it’s on par with Sensus. IMO, the biggest “bang” came from VW/Audi with the introduction of larger MMI screens, display-controlled HVAC, etc.

With exploding sales, I expect Volvo’s lifecycle to follow the competition- apparently the new XC90 is already in the works- and that means a new MMI is coming as well. Existing sensus already had a “redesign” - faster processor has been introduced starting MY19, eradicating all lagginess/freezeups from the first generation.. Etc, etc..
