Ok, so now my Jeep is more maintenance than revival, I can get on with my poor neglected 960.

First few issues are:-

Replace the leaking PAS lines.
Replace duff thermostat.
Replace brake fluid.
Replace driver's door hinges and mirror.
M.O.T.
Investigate torque Converter never locking up.
Investigating "lifter tick".

This is roughly the order they will be done in, however the investigations may be done alongside the replacement tasks. But these won't stop me getting an MOT, which then allows me to road test any fixes.

Any thoughts on the lifter ticking, it sounds like just one, and it did get quieter in use when I was daily driving it, but didn't go away entirely?
With it sitting for months, it is now as noisy as ever.
Will this be a camshaft off, job ultimately?

Those mostly sound straightforward jobs. I can share a few thoughts based on my own experiences with a 1997 V90.

Are the PAS lines definitely leaking? I thought one of mine was but it was actually just the jubilee clip at the reservoir and the fluid was trickling down the outside of the hose quite some distance. A very easy fix.

There seems to be the usual choice of opening temperatures for the stat. I plumped for 87° in the form of a Wahler 4272.87D (271417).

Brake fluid change is really easy with a pressure bleeding kit. Maybe take the opportunity to grease the slide pins at the same time. I had a sticking calliper cylinder which made the job more of a nightmare.

Replacing door hinges is a two man job. It will very likely go wrong and cause damage if you try it single handedly.

There is a lot of information on the transmission out there and some simple fixes which sometimes work. Worth trying to pull the fault codes either using the A/B box under the bonnet or the OBD port by the driver’s seat depending on the age of your car.

Good luck getting back on the road.

Ok, not been on for a while, had some progress...

The door hinge sent was the wrong side, however decided to keep it and get the driver's, as they're getting harder to find. I was going to support the door using an engine crane and trolley jack, but I will employ the help of my son also, thanks for the heads up.

From what I could see the fixing to the PAS pump of the return line was good, the replacement lines are in now, and all is good there.

A headlight alignment motor that was malfunctioning, turned out only to be dirty sliding contacts, which wasn't too bad a job.

However the steering rack was an advisory (the only one) from its recent MOT, so I have ordered some inner and outer track rods and boots etc. One inner joint was quite worn as the grease had dried out.

The rear washer jet had blocked, and needed removing, and the clips holding the tailgate spoiler on had perished, so I am looking for a set of those, which seem to be unobtainium! Any ideas? I don't want to just fill it with sikaflex and stick it back, if possible.

As for the gearbox, I have gone through a whole host of diag tests using the little flashing LED and pushbutton DLC box. Turns out two of the solenoids in the gearbox (the lock up and the pressure control ones) are most likely stuck, as they don't click after the two shift ones do, in the diag sequence.

Yesterday I dropped the pan off and weather permitting I will get the solenoids out and clean them, as per YouTube directions :-)

If they go back clicking then that should be a win.

Once it is all back and working, I will attempt a full flush using the cooler lines and a big bucket!

Oh, and I have found rain water leaking in on the passenger side, so that will have to be investigated during the hotter months.

I got a bunch of things off breakers on ebay, not found anyone local as such.
I found a lot of the breakers on ebay don't answer messages which seems a bit pointless. Not sure why they bother having listings if they ignore potential customers.

I am hoping I don't need many more bits.

.
It is worth covering the edge of the wing and sill with masking tape to protect the paint while doing the hinge swap

Update...

Going through all those flash codes on the TCM was a game in itself. I have written machine code for microprocessors in the past, and this is still more complicated!
I will make an arduino/raspi diag tool if I have time, in the future.

Got the trans filter and steering parts, so will be doing those jobs soon.

Building an external spare wheel holder for my Jeep, a holiday and a week of covid have stopped me doing anything on SilverBrick recently.

BTW Saw a silver N reg 945 near Macc that looked moody today. Had a few body and lighting tweaks to the front and some tasty wheels. Sounded throaty too.
