Update- got car back yesterday, it had the "Tmap sensor" (whatever that is) on the intercooler replaced, and upgrades to the "Tcm" and "Emap" (whatever they are)- as you can tell I've no idea what they've done, but so far it seems to have greatly improved it. Not had chance yet to test it on hills with a full load, but certainly mid-range overtaking on the motorway is much better, and the "lag" in response to the throttle pedal seems much reduced. Time will tell, anything further to report and I'll update again. Thanks to all contributors. AG

Good to hear. The TMAP sensor is like a MAP sensor but reads temp too, the reading for air pressure at the intercooler is picked up there and compared with a few other sensors to determine boost and fuelling etc. I replaced that twice on my previous V70 when it went a bit limp!
TCM is the transmission control module, update there will improve gearbox behaviour. EMAP not sure but someone will, never encountered that one!

EMAP is the exhaust manifold pressure sensor. Perhaps there was software that altered how this reads or how it interprets the information. You usually find these with a pipe attached and any blockages from build up of soot ect will cause incorrect readings etc.
