Default 'ECU problem'

Or so I thought.

The car (a 2.0l petrol) had been intermittently running badly. It would, usually after warming up, lose all power and it sounded like a VW Camper van. The local garage told me it was the ECU.

I've had the ECU tested, and apparently there is nothing wrong with it. So, presumably the problem is with a sensor or the wiring to a sensor?

Has anyone else had a problem which sounds similar?

If not, how do I go about finding out where the fault is?

Hi there.

You need to get your Codes read. If your car has a problem with a sensor the ECU usually throws up a code. By reading this code you can then tell which sensor is causing the problem.

For the garage to assume its the ECU is a bit lame....

Hope this helps

Sorry, I missed that bit out; they told me it wasn't holding any codes.

sounds like ignition coil breaking down but don't hold me to that.
There are a number of sensors on these cars but I'm not sure which one it might be.

Thanks, stevo. Changed the ignition coils, and it seems (touch wood) to have cured it.
