Default XC60 audio sounds like someone in an empty room

I was driving from London to Oxfordshire last night and one of my podcasts started to sound like it was recorded in an empty room. It only does this for around 5 seconds and then goes back to normal. I thought it was just a recording oddity with the podcast I was listening to, but then it did it on the next one. And the next one after that.

I mentioned it to my wife this morning and she said she had the same thing with the radio.

Anyone have an idea of what setting we may have switched? We have the Harman/Kardon audio option if that makes any difference. We've only had the car for a week so we're still figuring out all the options.

Never heard/experienced that problem in my 12 months of ownership with an XC60 & HK sound system.
I can only think it’s a problem with the device you were playing the Podcasts from - was it an external device?
Presume your XC60 is the latest Model Year 2019?

Ok just a theory, unlikely but my only plausible explanation: Do you have navigation on with voice guidance volume turned right down? Whereas most manufacturers simply lower the volume of media when outputting nav instructions, Volvo somehow lower the volume a bit, but also change the sound, as if you'd used an equaliser to strip out all the base and mid range sound, essentially making the media source sound quite tinny.

I just wondered if you had navigation on, but with the navigation volume turned right down, so in effect its change the balance of the media sound, but you cannot hear the guidance?

It also behaves the same when the parking sensors bleep.
