Unless I've misunderstood, you need the activation code that's specific to your vehicle? I received two 'free' updates (4 DVDs each) for my MY2013 V70, but those DVDs would be useless for another vehicle without the car-specific code. Are these DVDs using a different scheme?

Same mistake I made!!!! That's code is only for those who get the free map updates from a new car purchase. If you want to buy map updates separately and get a code, the stealer will charge £170 (verified by both Navtech and Volvo).

DVD's are only £23 from dealer btw.

Do you know if you can skip a couple of years & still pay £170 for the latest set, or would they sting you for the 'missing' years too? Ideally I'd keep mine as they currently are, & maybe buy an update in 3 years or so. I certainly don't want to spend £170/year, & don't need bang up-to-date maps.
