net thing behind the back seats

so
not really having a look at what the car has, i find behind the back seats a pull out net?
p2 v70
is this a dog guard of sorts or some sort of cargo net for the boot, but i already have a boot cover.

These are the instructions for use.

Using the safety net

Pull the net up from the cassettes. The net is self-locking after approx. one minute if the rear seat's backrests are raised.

Pull up the right-hand section of the net using its strap.

Insert the rod in the mounting on the right-hand side and then press it forward – the rod locks in with a click.

Pull out the rod's telescope section and click it in on the other side.

Pull up the left-hand safety net and hook it into the rod.

Folding up takes place in reverse order.

The net can also be used when the rear seat's backrests are folded forward.

I wouldn't say it was really strong enough to contain anything heavy if you brake hard and it tries to slide forwards i.e. don't rely on it as a cargo net

if you have the seats folded down there is another fixture point just behind the front seats, it pulls out further and then you get the normal sheeted bit without the netting to protect the back of your seats

it is a pretty good bit of design

nice one saves me looking for a dog guard as well

wont be enough to stop them if they really want to get through but theyre fairly placid in the car its just stopping the buggers climbing over covered in mud!

Certainly is. Very well thought out. I picked a brand new set cheaply off eBay a while back, and while I agree they wouldn't be strong enough to contain something really heavy they work very well for us as a dog guard until we come across a decent secondhand one.

the only downside the cover on the large part has broken tabs so doesnt clip in just falls off, is held on by sellotape but to be quite honest its not that big of a deal
