Default Have i bought a Volvo or a ford?

I have bought a S40 2lit diesel and when i went to service it down at my mates garage the other day he said the engine looked fordish Yikes i thought but when i recently replaced the front and rear wheel bearings they came in a box stating ford again im begining to think should i have just bought a focus LOL.
So while i love my new investment have i bought ford running gear on Volvo wheels and body in which case i can live with it but im not impressed as if i wanted a ford which i hate them i would have bought one.
So what do i do next buy a s60 to gain a pure Volvo?

There is a lot of Focus in the S40 including the diesel engines. Given the Focus is generally regarded as the best in it's class apart from the crappy interior (which the S40/V50 vastly improve on) I really don't see why that would be an issue.

Bottom line : Do you like your car? If yes, enjoy it. If not, sell it.

Simples

Cheers,
John

yes it uses the focus floor pan and suspension and shares the 2 litre diesel with ford and citroen amongst other makes too , however volvo have ditched that engine now in favour of their own new 2 litre D3 and D4 . It is completely different above the floor though , even if the door hinges and check straps look similar they are stronger on the volvo !
No a S60 wont help thats basicly a shortened mondeo platform , but i think you will find it is the mondeo which shares the volvo developed floor pan .. although its basicly a giant S40 if you look at it .. ( floor pan and suspension )

Funnily enough the S 40 is nothing like a focus to drive , volvo tuned the springs and dampers .
There are not many manufacturers now that make all the car themselves ..

As clan said you do have Ford focus running gear but to be honest for all the stick Ford still gets thay are at the top of their game & have been for some time the unreliable rot boxs are long gone.

The thing I find annoying about my V50 is the boot is consderably smaller than a Focus estate, I had a 03 Plate Focus ST170 Estate before the V50, very rare car, very nice to drive but the interior was very cheap which is were Volvo play the trump card being a premium brand.

I also miss the quick clear winscreen & the very clear easy to find A/C controls not as fidaly as the V50's Other than that I have been very impressed with the car.

regarding the AC you have auto climate control . its completely fiddle-less , if you know how it works .. ( 90% of owners dont know much about climate control from what i see ) yes you may get a blast of air for 20 or 30 seconds at start up but thats to cool it down in summer and demist in winter , you just have to put up with that , usualy you can leave it on AUTO set to about 19 C and it takes care of itself . If you disregard the climate control and use manualy , yes its a pain!

My S60 is a Mondeo effectively!

If you want pure Volvo, buy an Amazon or P1800 or similar old school car.

not yet , it will take 5 years before any changes filter down to the cars themselves , Geeley said that they want volvos to remain as they are , so perhaps volvo sweden will be back in the driving seat as they were 11 years ago .
