Default XC40 Active Four-C suspension

Evening, after some feedback here ...

My otherhalf, whom must be obeyed at all times , is looking at changing her beloved Yeti, the XC40 seems to tick lots of boxes, but I have a question ...

Does anyone have a XC40 with Active Four-C suspension?

Whats it like?, find it useful?, general living with it, in fact any feedback at all from actual owners.

Cheers Robin

My T3 Man Inscription Pro (MY20) has the standard (non-R Design) suspension, with "standard" 19" wheels. It is very comfy, despite the large wheels (better than my previous XC90 and XC70 on 18" wheels). It is not designed to be wheeched round corners like a sports car, but perfectly fits the roll of a comfy family SUV. For our needs, the Active Four-C would not have been money well spent.

Hello Ayrshire, did you by any chance get to test a Four-C equipped car?
Must admit, I've never been a wannabe touring car champion à la John Cleland and an SUV of any size is not for that type of driving in my book, but in our circumstances I can see benefits of the Four-C system, pity unlike its big brothers, XC90/XC60 it does not include the "air" component to adjust the ride/park height.

We only managed to test drive a T3 man R Design with the standard suspension, so don’t know what difference it would have made. All I can say is the standard set up is perfect for us (mostly rural roads, with a blast up the A/M77 once a week).
Hope you have more success with the local dealers. Glasgow failed to get back to us after visiting the showroom, and our local dealer seemed to know less about the car than me. I voted with my feet and dealt with Lloyd’s in Carlisle, and have not regretted it. They offered a competitive discount, acceptable delivery date and excellent service throughout.

Hi, yes I know what you mean with the local dealers ... the Glasgow franchise is shocking on their attitude to owners of Volvo cars that are over 3 years old ... servicing or sales, and I have had the same feeling with the "down the coast dealer" in "why do I know more about my car than the main dealer," although I do find the service department willing to listen and understand.

Glad you got a good deal from Lloyd, I will bear that in mind ... I've also had good deals and service from Clelands and Strathmore in the past ... just a tad far to travel for servicing though.

I haven't driven an XC40 with/without it, only without.

I've driven other models though with/without it, personally I would get it if I was buying new!

Its not needed, but the ride imo is better with it.

OK been a few months since I posted now, so has there been any new XC40 owners with a car fitted with Four-C suspension ...

My management whom she must be obeyed is now moaning about my dithering.

Anyone else?

None of the reviews I've read or watched have said it is worth it, some even saying it made ride worse, so I didn't spec it.

I'd only go for an option like this if everyone was saying it's a must-have to overcome the deficiencies of the standard set-up.

Must admit I have not found any XC40 reviews that included the Active Four-C suspension ...

I have driven the standard suspension XC40 recently and found it a bit loose and even the little lady felt it didnt corner great so bought one with the active four c suspension, pick it up end of next week so will be able to offer an idea of if the upgrade was worth it and how it rides.

We have an XC90 as well and that thing rides great on standard suspension.

Will let you know
