Paul..
I had a manager like that once, the trick with him was to put forward your idea (in simple words) then go away, half an hour later he'd call you back to the office and say how he'd given it careful thought and come up with a plan. He'd then repeat your idea back to you and you'd say 'Oh that's a really good idea Kevin' and we could get on with the job.

Would it work on say... population of a middle-sized country?

Just toying with the idea..

Trouble is the population of many countries seem rather too eager to follow crazy ideas..

and fades to pink

yes....

and population of the country i`m thinking of...

well.. lets say that when most of other countries use light and strong construction of roofs with 3-tier insulation just under METAL sheeting (formed so it looks like clay roof tiles), this one is stuck on heavy and easy to crack clay tiles

when other countries are using 16 different types of plaster, each one made for specific substrate (ie brick wall, plasterboard, damp or dry etc), this one is stuck with one..

and pretty much only one substrate bonding agent (PVA), for that matter

list is endless

i can understand tradition, attachment to "classics" or whatever one wants to call it, but at some stage surely going forward is a must?

You would think so, wouldn't you, Thomas. Another example for you:

Our church tower roof needed replacing last year as it was leaking like a sieve and as a result the timber beams supporting it had rotted (they had been there for circa 400 years). It was made of lead, is 90 feet up (inaccessible without scaffolding) and only visible from above.

Despite more modern materials being available that are lighter, stronger and much cheaper, we had no choice but to replace it like for like in order to comply with church rules and listed building status.

Regards, John.
