Exclamation 07 XC90 D5 Brake problem please help

Hi All,
I'm hoping somebody on this forum can help I'm currently pulling my hair out..

I have just purchased an 07 xc90 D5 fsh with 75000 miles on it,

after a long drive a rear caliper was getting stuck and heating the rear disk and pad up,

new disks and pads all round upon fitting I noticed a rear caliper piston boot split so purchased a new caliper,

new caliper fitted, solid pedal when engines not running but as soon as I start engine the pedal disappears and you have to pump it to get a pedal again...

Upon reversing out the yard there is no brakes unless you pump them a couple of times,

I've tried the 2 person bleed and a lazer pressure bleed and still little luck

I thought air in the brake lines could be the issues but 2 hrs of bleeding and I'm still having the same problem

please if someone can help it would be so greatly appreciated

thanks Dan

Have you fitted the anti-rattle springs correctly? If not, it can produce the symptoms you describe. Ask me how I know...

Hi Greg really appreciate your response,

I have read a few threads on here regarding the anti rattle springs I did fit them how there were when purchased but that ain't to say they were wrong in first place ..I've seen a photo on this forum and it shows me the wire behind the lugs on the caliper almost sandwiched between the pad and caliper don't suppose you have a photo chap I'm pulling my hair out ...
Many thanks Danny

This should help but never let a caliper hang by the hose like he does.

if not the anti rattle springs then try clamping the flexi hose to isolate the new calliper and hose - if you get a stiff pedal then hose may be damaged and need replacing. If still soft then likely air still in the system - pressure bleeders are really good for this.
A long shot - I managed to put new front callipers on my jag the wrong way round (I swear I put on correct side directed by the label on the box!) so could not get a hard pedal as being wrong way around put bleed nipple at bottom so air trapped at top no matter how much you bled; is it possible you have wrong side fitted?

Hi gents finally sorted this brake issue after alot of swearing and a snapped off bleed later we have sorted the issue .....the new caliper I was sent was actually the wrong side therefore the bleed nipple was at the bottom and would not bleed up even with pressure bleeding process so thanks to you guys who commented on this one my patience was begging to wear thin....
Again thanks all
Danny

We've all been there in one way or another and it's a sober reminder to compare new and old parts before fitting.
Mine was attempting to fit an auxiliary belt tensioner supplied by a Volvo main dealer so I naively assumed it must be correct and didn't lay it next to the old one for confirmation.

A one minute game of spot the difference can save hours of head scratching.
