Default Center console/climate control leds not working

Hi,

I have Volvo S40 II 2009 2.0D.

All LEDs indicating state in center console except one do not work from time to time. Backlight works correctly.

They work every morning after car was not started all night. When I start and let engine work e.g. 5-10 minutes and I stop and start again they don't work. They don't work until next mornign when car was stopped all night.

You can see on the image all faulty LEDs in red circles. Passenger's "AC zone LED" works without any issues.

What can be a problem? I have tried to clean connectors on CEM (unplug, clean and plug in back) with no luck.

Had something similar in my old S40. One day the 'Phone' button wouldn't light up or work and the radio had started to turn itself on and off if you had it turned on. In my case? It was the battery starting to die. It did this for a few days then one morning the whole car was stone dead.

New battery fixed everything in the end.

In my case functionality of buttons, A/C, radio works correctly but I don't know state of the buttons e.g. rear window heating, seats heating, I don't know it's turned on or off.

Hello!
I have the same problem with a V50 2008 car. Did you manage to solve it?

When I disassembled the watterfall and cleaned the motherboard inside with contact spray then it worked for a few days but I was not able to fix to for a longer time.

I bought a whole new watterfall with motherboard (from a used car) and it fixed problems with LEDs. So my problem was definitely in motherboard of the watterfall.

Thanks for the reply! I think so too. Did the new waterfall have to be programmed onto the car or just replaced?
