Alright I know the 2.0t or t5 would be nicer to drive but the economy of the diesel would be a winner especially seeing as there isn't really that much of a price gap between them it wont take very long until the fuel savings trump the few hundred £ less cost price for a petrol. Besides, from what ive read the D5 is one of the best, most refined diesels of the 2000s no? Believe me i've driven tractors and things close to them (90s land cruiser anyone?) and I would say the d5 is along way from one. Perhaps anyone who has a D5 will say what its like as an engine? Thought it was a good diesel but Im seeing opinion to the contrary here.
thanks

ive got aV70 163 bhp d5 , great car at what it does, very economical, superb build quality ,however i have to say i just prefer petrols, and if i wasnt doing the mileage i am i would have bought a t 5 without doubt they are just so much nicer to drive , as said the d5 does its job very well its just not a drivers car

I am not a Volvo evangelist in the least, yet I've driven hundreds of engine variations and for me, when it comes to a balance of performance, torque, smoothness and economy, the D5 is the finest engine I've ever driven.

Ok gudgeonpin and chesired5, thanks for the advice. If I was living in texas id have the T5 in a shot [or even the R AWD haha] but I really could use the extra mpg of the diesel. Thanks for the input on the D5 as an engine too, for a diesel its as nice as they come I can see now in terms of performance vs economy

In NORMAL day to day LEGAL driving a T5 offers absolutely nothing over my S60 D5 185 manual.

Yes a T5 is more refined but i get more mpg out of my D5 with a caravan on the back than i could out of a solo T5.

Before anyone says that i don't know what i am talking about i have used various T5's as my " work" car at speeds that most can only imagine and in spite of this i prefer my D5 for personal use.

That said, if your daily commute is low buy a petrol.

I have never had any DPF issues whatsoever but cover sufficient mileage to avoid it anyway.

D5 a tractor ? I think not

You mean your not a astronaut then.....but you said you went at speeds mere mortals can only imagine ..if your not a astronaut then what are you ...

As said i dont own a T5 i own D5 and i never mentioned i drive at illegal speeds or i drive like a clown .. with you knack for distorting what was actually said have you ever consdered a career in the police? ..There always on the lookout for those sort of skills i hear ..

FYI I always drive as safetly as possible and rarely break the speed limits the only time i do take it to the limit is when i take my fireblade to trackdays that way hopefully if i screw up the only person hurt is me ..
