Black grille for 850?

Hello again

A long time ago I posted a query about painting the grille from an 850 black. Simon Linton and others advised me how to do it, but warned me about the damage stone chips can do to the new paint finish. One alternative is to get a mesh grille like those from IPD et al, although I think they detract from the car and look a bit "rude" for my taste. Nonetheless, I've had an idea: I understand there was one 850 with a black grille, ie the AWD. I've checked with Eurocarparts and they only stock the regular silver grille for an 850.

Anyone have any ideas about the cost of one of these AWD black grilles from a dealer, if they even exist that is? Maybe an AWD owner could enlighten me?

The V70 XC grill was the black egg-crate style, but I think all 850s, including the AWD, had the same silver grill.

Bob is correct about Nordic supplying grilles I bought a Nordic sports grille for £35 plus VAT three weeks ago. The grilles are in Chrome and matt black. Nordic will also supply Volvo oem grilles at a good discount to members. You may have to order oem grilles.

I bought a black grill for my 850 mesh style and I think it looks great plus you could paint its surround to match your car. I got mine from NORDIC for about £35 I think though it may have been £50 can't remember. You can see it in members gallery under the name BILL. Its on the estate not my old saloon.

I think I have let my membership lapse. I'll have to rejoin. I can't find any pics by "Bill", only "Crooked Billet" Does the Nordic grille have the diagonal line and the Volvo badge, because I don't like the plain mesh type form IPD.

I've just rung Nordic and their black grille is £35+VAT which compares favourably with the IPD version.

If you want to see what the 70 series one looks like, look on the gallery for the latest Crooked Billet gathering and you'll see a black/chrome one on the front of the red 70 next to my car.

They're available in black or black with chrome trim - I'm not sure I like it myself, so I'll await comment from someone who's fitted it on a 850.

There were some black/chrome mesh grills for sale on ebay recently. They were going for way more than £30-40 though.
