hope this helps?

Thanks for the help. I assume you mean the cover where the passanger fusebox is located? But i'll have a look and give it a go. I never would have thought about removing the wheelarch liner over removing the door panels first. But it hink at that stage i'll leave ti to the dealer.

Thanks again.

i had a similar problem. the drivers door will not open from outside and subsequently i was locked out the other day with the engine running. Ended up breaking in with a coat hanger to get the door open, the spare remote didnt work.

the pin sticks up on the remote unlock press and the door will open from the inside with the catch, took the door handle off and that seems ok, no broken plastic, so must be the lock release mechanism somewhere

all this hassle the week before christmas, i thought volvos were built to last, not impressed for the money you pay for the car

Were you not able to use the detatchable key off the remote to get in? Its there to be used if the remote / central locking fails.

no, because the doors were set to auto lock except the drivers while the engine was running and as its the drivers door with a problem, the key wouldnt work either, the car could do with another key entry position on the passenger door for emergencies like this

Quite right. Just volvo trying not to spoil the neat and tidy image of the door i imagine.

Had the same problem last month. Took the car (MY55 S40 2.0D) to my local dealer,Tyn Lon Volvo, Llanfair P.G, and they replaced the connectors on both doors. It is a known fault and I was informed the the instructions from Volvo are only to replace the connectors when customer complains!!. Is this not a major saftey issue should you be involved in an accdient and need to get out of the car post haste?

It is an immediate prohibition notice if stopped by the police or VOSA if either front door will not open from the inside or out. This means a hefty bill for the tow away and an MOT that Volvo will probably not pay for.

Ive had the same problem with my locks which have never been fixed, only a re grease or connector change. My car cuts out on the motorway, but Volvo cant fix that.
You can contact VOSA as they list all recalls and will possibly look at the problem. As to my car, Im selling the piece of junk as I cant continue driving a potential death trap.
I would never touch another Volvo or a product from the Pilling group.
My heart goes out for anyone who owns a Volvo. Over priced Fords with a badge....
