Default Dragon Diesel Tuning Box

Hullo,

It's looking like i'll be picking up a v50 2.0D soon.
I would like a bit more poke in the car and have spotted the Dragon Tuning Box (ebay)
I've heard a few folk mention that they're quite good - especially for the money(24bhp - 70Nm extra for 185 quid delivered)

What's you thoughts on it - is there a better one out there for similar money?

If there's a better one - anyone got a link to it?

Cheers

J

Hi

Where did you get that quote from, it's a good price.

I am getting a V50 R-Design Sport soon and would like one!

I have the RICA tune and it is great. More BHP and torque (180bhp and 362nm). No black smoke, more mpg and a smoother engine.

Reading about tuning boxes, they can be more trouble than they are worth.

I have a Powerklick unit on my S60 and have been happy with it so far.

I am also looking for any comments on a Kingquick unit. They seem to be very cheap, just wondered about any problems. Remaps are unboubtedly the better option, but at a cost!

As Metblackrat hinted, tuning boxes are notorious for soot output. Not sure how well the particulate filter on the Euro IV 2.0D would cope.

Another happy RICA customer here (although it's fallen a smidge short of the claimed power and torque figures both times it's been rolling-roaded).

Standard, it made 147bhp at Awesome GTI in November, 2006.

Remapped, it made 167bhp and 287lbft at Awesome again, in the middle of summer.

Then it made 166bhp and 272lbft at TB Turbos. Heatsoaked badly on the rollers, it dropped 10bhp between the first and second power runs.

Given the fact that it seemed very healthy when standard, the remapped results seemed a bit lacklustre. At the end of the day, what matters is how it drives and on that score I'm more than happy.

wow, as standard it's a lot different to what volvo quote, from memory about 136bhp. Thought it felt better than that, been looking at tuning options also but they seem a lot of money for a small gain. Is it really noticably different?

I suppose if they quote 136bhp, it has to make 136bhp on the hottest day of the year.

The remap makes a very noticeable difference - it just pulls so much harder than before and sustains the power further around the rev range.
