Default Ipod

Can anyone help. I've just taken ownership of an 07 plate S40 2.0 SE and was really pleased to discover that I could plug in my Ipod into the car and control it via the audio system. I called my volvo dealer today to ask if it was a special volvo part needed to link the ipod to the unit and was told that volvo had withdrawn the part. I understand they have now modified the socket on the 08 model!!!
I called volvo UK and they have promissed to call me back on Monday (Yeh right!!!)
My car is only 7 months old. Surely Volvo have a responsibility to make any changes necessary to my car as its still within the first year and they have a solution to the problem. Has anyone else faced this problem???

I asked about this for my last XC70 (MY07) and was told it cost £150 plus VAT & Fitting, I think they quoted me around £100 to fit it. If you hadn't guessed I didn't both, I bought a lead (about £3) from radioshack and connected it to the AUX socket, it works ok and can still charge the iPod, you can't control it via the steering wheel and the display just shows as AUX, but for a £250 saving I could live with that.

To note I asked about the new one for my new XC70 (MY08) which is a better version than the 2007 one, but was quoted £270 +VAT and Fitting, the Radioshack lead is still being used.

Thanks for that. Did your car already have the fittings? it sounds really expensive. I was expecting to be able to simply buy a lead to connct the two as it has a hole for the lead near to the storage area at the back of the centre console

That's just the AUX socket, you can buy any 3.5mm lead and connect to that, that's how I'm using it.

The fully fitted one means fitting the Volvo lead into the back of the Sound System and reprogramming it, the lead fits into the bottom of the iPod so charges it at the sametime, the display shows some extra info about the track playing and it will switch between the frist 9 I think (might be 6) folders on the iPod using the buttons of the radio. I didn't think it was worth the money, the new '08' lead does a lot more ie more folders and more info on the display, so if it was the same price I would of bought it, but at an extra £100+ again not worth the money in my view.

I used to use a lead like this (but a shorter one):-

This is the one I'm now using:-

What I'm really looking for is an iPod car charges with a 3.5mm lead connected to it so I can charge it and play music at the sametime, I can do it now but have to use a standard 3.5mm lead.

If you see one let me know.

I may be wrong here but if it's a 57 plate there should be an AUX socket behind the centre console. It should look like a standard headphone socket.

Looking on the Volvo web site, the current S40 S has an Aux Input for MP3 Player. It looks like a standard 3.5mm jack socket, if it has then look at the links I posted higher up in this thread for a couple of different leads that will work. There is a general lead that will work with any device with a 3.5mm headphone socket (ie. MP3, CD, DVD, SatNav ect) and the other is for an iPod but you'd need to check if it will fit your iPod.

Thanks for the reply, I have checked behind the console and there is not a jack point, I suppose my s40 was a build before.
