pps:still a nice car to drive a bit noisy (wheel noise from back ) but feels good..
If your car is 2004 then it is Euro3 as Euro4 didn't come into effect until 2005.
I recently found out for passenger cars arabic numbers are used for Euro grouping. Roman numerals are used for HGV's.

Best thing you can do with the particulate filter when it starts to play up is bash the innards out of it!

And to answer your question about residuals- yes and no. Euro III cars are making about £1000 more at auction (i.e. where most used traders pick up stock) than Euro 4's with around the 50-60k mileage on the clock due to the DPF replacement cost looming and or problems with them.

Of course the average buyer isnt aware of either the difference between 3 and 4 (yet) nor the cost of DPF replacements!! So the selling dealer makes alot more from selling a euro4 car on at the same price as a 3 as its cost him alot less to buy!

(If that lot makes sense)

Tim..

If I'm looking at a vehicle which might be either Euro3 or Euro4, and the vendor doesn't know which it is, how can I tell the difference between the two?

Easy way is go here and do a vehicle enquiry. Put in the car's reg etc and it will tell you what tax band it is in and its liability - £140 = Euro4, £115 = Euro3. also tells you whether the dealer is hanging on to the tax disc - sometimes useful as they always want you to pay for it on top whilst cashing in on whats left of the old one.

I think all V50s have them, but on the S40s it's Sport only as standard fit.
