2015 D4 EGR/Coolant problems
Hi!
I am new to this forum - I have a 2015 R Design Lux D4 NAV which I bought in Nov 2017 with 20k miles on. Recently (at 26k) my engine management light came on which has been identified as an EGR/coolant error code. My local dealership have told me the EGR valve etc has already been replaced in Oct 2016 so want to investigate engine valve leakage (not covered by my 3rd party extended warranty). Should I pursue this line of investigation at my own cost or sell up quickly as it seems to be a huge issue with these engines which doesn't seem to have a permanent fix? Thanks :-) |

Seems like a worrying response! I'd suggest you try another dealer, as many other members have had very positive outcomes to repeat failures of the EGR valve/pipework/cooler.
Wade your way through this thread for a LOT of background and examples! https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=221555

This is going to be an ongoing worry for all us VEA drivers...
I notice you only did 6k miles in 18 months. Was any of that on the motorway? Did the dealer suggest it might be due to local use or anything? I think it's important to do at least one motorway run a month in these diesels, particularly the VEA where we know there is a problem.

The technician I spoke to told me that the fact I sit in traffic jams and only do approx 100 miles per week was not helping along with using 'supermarket' diesel?! What's the point in producing a vehicle that struggles with 'commuting to work'? If I can get a fix for my car I will ensure at least one, high rev, motorway journey per week to clear out the filters :-/

Has anyone tried the 'filter cleaners' that you add to fuel with any success?

This has nothing to do with filters (DPF or otherwise).
Did the dealer confirm that ALL available updates (physical and software) have been applied to your car? The specific 'EGR' thread I previously linked indicated that dealers can be far more helpful than your experiences here. I recommend that you post in that thread where your problem will be seen by others who have been successful in this regard. Blaming supermarket fuel is a poor excuse and I'm not sure why they suspect 'engine valve leakage'. As before, I suggest a second opinion.
