Exclamation Windscreen & Headlight Washer Problems. HELP!

Dear Forum Members,

I winder if anyone can assist me with a problem with my 'W' reg S40. The washer jets have gone very weak. The washer bottle is full, and the washer motor is working fine. The pipe is missing off the drivers side headlamp washer and has been since I got the car more than a year ago.

I've had a look under bonnet at the pipes and can't find any obvious problems. I really need some help as I've got an MOT coming up. In addition one of my headlamp wipers is very intermittent. If anyone can help me with these problems I'd be really grateful as I'm able to do the jobs if I know how.

Thank you in advance.

If there is sufficient fluid and the pump is working fine the problem has got to be in the pipeline or the jets. First off I would pull the pipes off the jets and operate the system to see what water flow you have. If the flow is good it will most likely be blocked jets, if so either clean with a pin or replace. If the flow is weak it will be the little non return valve needing replacement. This is in the pipework under the bonnet close to the jets. Similarly with the headlamp washers pull the pipes at the headlamps - although first you need to replace the missing pipe - and test as above. The non return valve is on the drivers side of the front bumper in front of the radiator and can be seen when the bonnet is open. The little valves are about a couple of quid off ebay and about 10mm in diameter.

Just one other point. I'm not sure whether you have the early jets with two pipes what squirt two jets of water on the screen or the later fan type that covers the whole screen with a fine spray. If you need to replace the jets and have the earlier ones go for the later fan type. They are a direct replacement and so much better.

I thought there were pressure issues in retrofitting them and the newer washer pump used more pressure? might be wrong.....

They are good though.
