Default XC60 Drive shaft inner gaiter failure

Hi there, my 2017 XC60 T5 has been diagnosed with an inner gaiter failure on one of the drive shafts (FWD). Apparently it has split along the mould line. The dealer says you can’t buy replacement gaiters but you need a new drive shaft at £1100 fitted. The car has full VSH so Volvo have offered a contribution. I need to get if done because it is an MOT failure. Does any one experience of this? It seems very odd that it is not possible to change the part rather than the assembly? Thanks HJ

Have you tried looking for the gaiter as an aftermarket part? It is years since I bought a CV joint boot, but they always seemed to be a frequent failure and therefore every motor factors sold them.

It's the same with most main dealers, they say bellows and bushes etc aren't available separately, I had this with my Lexus, but most are available outside of the dealerships.

I guess it will all come down to how much contribution they are making.

If they offer 80% of 1100 quid, then maybe it is best to go for that, but if they are only offering 50%, then it will be surely cheaper to pay for an aftermarket part to be fitted.

One thing is for sure, there will be absolutely no offer of any assistance (even just the labour) from Volvo if it is a non OEM product being fitted.
