Must sort my leaking sunroof on my 940 too.

Seems to leak more when the car is tilting back and drips out the roof mounted light!

A few years ago I silicone the glass to seal joint and it helped, but looks as if it's parting now. I'll need to remove the seal and do as Laird Skooby advices.

Also need to fix the leaking Ac next spring and get that working again.

James
Sounds like you have a blocked drain(s) from the sunroof James!

My 940 has a steel sun roof. I ordered a new seal from main dealer quoting the VIN. I was supplied with part no. 3528809 which was ordered in from “Volvo classic parts, Sweden”. I will not be trying to fit it until the better weather next year.

I definitely think so!

Leaks a lot and sometimes goes all the way to rear headliner and drips/ pools onto load cover.

Will give a full overhaul in Spring!

James.

How much was it please Ian? I've managed to revive mine with silicone grease for now but will need a new one at some point.

The sunroof on my 960 leaked not long ago[it was parked slightly nose down]to the extent that water was coming out of the overhead light the headling over the rear passenger seats was wet and the B pillars were damp.First thing was to clear the drains but only found the front ones[using curtain wire]not found the rear ones yet! The black surround on the sunroof glass had a gap of about eighth on an inch instead of presumably being a closer fit[?] and the corners of the ends were curling up.For now I've run silicone sealer[not very neatly but it'll do until the weather's better] round the entire glass/black surround and filled the gap between the ends which so far seems to have cured the leak.

£55.50 ex VAT Dave. That was before a small VOC discount which my dealer kindly allows me.

I have rescued the seal which was crusty with lichen and age (remember I paid £200 for this car). With lots of care and silicon, it's now flexible again and seals happily against the roof panel. It's now just the seal to glass bond which is problematic.

I'll lift the sunroof out and have a good look at it (if it ever stops raining)!

It's just amazing that although we can put a man on the moon, there is not a car company on earth who can make a sunroof which will never leak!

What is more amazing however is the fact that cars come with sunroofs at all. If it's blisteringly hot sunny weather why would you want to expose your head to that? If you are doing motorway speeds why would you want to create all that noise by opening a roof. If it's cold and raining etc etc.

Rant over - and thank you.......
Agreed. Ideally I didn't want a sun roof but ended up with a car with one. When I got mine the motor worked but it leaked. Then the motor stopped working. The drains were clear back and front and new black silicone sorted the leak. However I just had the switch disconnected. I'm not interested in using the sun roof at all especially since I got the air con fixed. Which works great now.
