Extra to the very useful tip of warming the plastic ball sockets, I got some replacements on by giving them a sharp hit with a rubber mallet (didn't warm them, being unaware as I was......but didn't break any!) and they popped on OK.

My roof on the estate is a ghastly shade of pink where it's faded. I tried polishing, cutting and even 'gasp' wet 'n' dry to find the colour, I'm now in the process of painting it - black!

Do you mean the paint had bleached right through, so it was just that whiteish pink it sometimes goes, how ever much you cut it back?

I'm only asking as I've passed on several otherwise good 240's which had the fading red paint common on 88 - 91's. The previous comments made me think I may have missed some bargains - if the paint could be just polished up.

Yes, that's it, when wet it looks fine but goes pink/white as soon as it's dry. I gave it a quick scuffing with wet'n'dry last night and managed to paint half the roof satin black, with extra flies! Tonight, I'll finish the job.

Had a much better look at the car!
Didn't buy it... it was a dog! All the plastic trim on the door bottoms was falling off, so previous owner has reattached it by drilling huge holes and putting dirty great self tappers through into the doors.
The insides of the doors must have looked like some kind of ancient torture chamber, a forest of sharp points! That puls the rust round each of the holes.
Inside was knackered as well, and all the doors were pushed in so you could see the line of the reinforcing bars down them. Could only see that in the evening light, when the bars cast more of a shadow, I didn't notice when I looked quickly before!
I know it was only £200, but I'm sure I can do better than that.

Thanks to everyone for all the information this post has generated tho, nothing like that's ever wasted.
