The only difference is the trim moulding (that clips to body, and 'sits' on bumper close to the body). It is of a flatter profile for estate (to allow tailgate to open). The moulding is in three parts, and is either black or chrome depending on model spec (GLE, GLT etc.). So make sure you retain your moulding; you may find you can leave it in situ to change bumper.

Actually there are several different corner moulding sections even within estates. Later ones are absolutely flat, like a boomerang, earlier can have quite a pronounced face towards the bodywork.
While you have the bumper off take the opportunity for a very critical inspection inside the slam panel. It is a notorious spot for insidious rust, and can completely rot away hidden behind that trim. If you pull the fastening clips out (probably rusted anyway) you can blast preservative through each hole, as well as from underneath and inside the boot well. |

rust preservative
or really.. metal preservative, I don't want to preserve the rust!
On this question, can you still get Waxoyl? I can't recall seeing it, but then to be honest I haven't been looking' Halfords used to sell it by the gallon, I used two whole containers on a Fiat 131 (notorious rust bucket). Mine didnt rust, but it did leak little waxoyl stalagmites under all the drain holes if you parked it too long in the sun.. bit of overkill I think

bumper
good idea,i think ill do that.
having a bit of a problem getting the tubular sections to fit in the holes. looks like the previous bumper was hit and has twisted the metal slightly in the holes that the bumper fits into. I tried hitting it very hard with a hammer and soft piece of wood but no luck. |

I had a 1984 131 supermirafiori 4 door once, I think it came from Mars as there wasn't a spot of rust on it! |

Sadly I too have the dreaded rusty slam panel - even though I've had a can of waxoyl in the garage since before I got the car. Don't be fooled (as I was) by looking up under the bumper at sound metal - it's a hollow section, seemingly prone to condensation, and which must somehow miss the 'hot dip' at the factory. |
