Question 240 information

I'm looking to buy a 240 saloon or estate, to use as my weekend running about car. I have a 2005 S40 which is my 'work' car, but I'm putting too many miles on it at weekends, so I want a good, sound, weekend workhorse.
I'm not looking for a concourse car, just something sound, solid and reliable, and also something that I can do most of the general maintainance on, hence the choice really of a 240, or possibly a 740. I know I could get a 10 year old Mondeo, but they are all electronic and odd!
Many years ago I had a 240GL estate 'Y' reg 2127?? engine 4speed overdrive box, which I loved and so did my wife, so its a nostalgia trip as well.ny tips on what to look for in a car of the age that most 240's will be, like where is the serious structural rust, and anything I should look out for mechanically (apart from the obvious like smoke and funny noises!)
What's the cam belt change time for them. I seem to remember that changing a 240 cam belt is really quite easy, and the genuine Volvo ones have markings on them to line up with marked teeth on the drive sprockets.
I have seen an 'F' reg 240GLT in white for sale locally, has about 160K on the clock, but also has the classic rusty rear wheel arches. Can you still get the repair panels for the arches, and any ideas how much the job whould cost.
This car is for sale for £700 which seems very much towards the top end to me, looking at what has been for sale in this forum.
Any information (what are spares/tyres like regards availablilty etc) and/or tips welcome, also how good is the lpg conversion?
Any VOC member out there wanting to sell me a decent 240 or 740? I'd prefer the estate, to get all my overalls etc (I'm learning to drive steam engines!), but would be happy with a decent saloon. Age not important, but condition is. Needs to be a drive away.
Sorry I'm rambling!

Most of the 240s you will see will be either a 2.0 or 2.3. The 2.3 is certainly better if you intend to do any towing - the difference is noticeable particularly on hills. Try to get one with good bodywork Estates tend to rust above rear bumper (panel available from Volvo) and also tailgates. Other areas as you have seen is wheel arches and also sills. Repair panels are available - wheel arches are reasonably time consuming to do properly so avaoid if you can.
The GLT is the most desirable - leather interior, all round electric wnidows, electric mirrors, better suspension and higher ratio rear axle. Most estates benefit from new rear springs and shocks.

Spares situation is excellent - a lot that you wouldn't expect including panels available from Volvo. Tyres - we run ours on 205 x 60/15 for improved roadholding. 185 x 14s are still available but you may have to shop around.

We have run our fleet on lpg for years. My GLT (below) has done over 78,000 in just over 2 years with no problems and on a basic system! There have been various postings about tank options. The important factor for sucess is correct installation of good equipment (it is very easy!) and maintaining engine electrics in good condition.
I can supply diy kits or fit (fitted from £750). Running costs about 8p per mile.
