Winter wheels
Just got my first Volvo (V70 D5) which is running on 17" wheels.
I am contemplating fitting 16" rims with 225/55 winter tyres. Should I expect any issues? there is only about 6/7mm difference in o/d |

I've been wondering the exact same thing, as one option is to buy a set of 16" XC70 wheels.

Different rolling circumferences will affect the speed / odometer readings. In VIDA, it displays the wheel / tyre size that the vehicle was built with, so there may be the option to change it to recalibrate the car.

A 0.44% difference, I wouldn't worry about it.

That was my line of thinking also, did it with my wifes' Octavia with no problems
original spec for base model was 16", but car came with optional 17" alloys and I believe that the V70 had 16" wheels on some basic vehicles, but didnt want to spend £500 ish on steel wheels and tyres if it was going to cause probs with something I had not considered. Thanks for the swift replies guys, much appreciated. |

XC70's have different size brake disks. Mine (17") are VERY close to the standard wheel rim. I doubt a smaller (16") rim would fit over my brakes/calipers...
I have winter wheels off and XC70 (with spigot rings to take the slack in the hub diameter) Write-up here https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=80476 This is the 2007 spec showing the differences in disk rotor sizes:

Good spot Martin. My 2009 D5 has 16.5" (316mm) front brakes and a 16" wheel would not clear them.

I see no issues if u get 16 rims and correct rubber for the 16” ie a higher profile in this case. My summer rims are 18, I bought Volvo 16 and fitted winter tyres and all is fine, in fact ride quality is comfier than the 18’s but they do not look as cool. Big saving getting 16” rubber hence going down this route.

On my XC70, I use 235/55 17" during the summer and 215/65 16" in the winter. Works fine.
Yes, the largest brakes doesn't work with 16" wheels. My D5 has the middle size, and they work well. |

i've got 316mm front and 302mm rear.....not sure if that's 'middle' or 'large' on a V70 ?
