Hi i have just logged a new thread i have the same problem with my 06 V70 2.4D. My car has conked out completely on 2 occasions. Volvo dealers cannot find the fault either the car loses all power for 3-5 secs intermittently when driving then all power comes back or the engine conks out altogether, but restarts immediately. No warning lights appear and the vehicle does not go into safe mode either. Volvo dealers have replaced the fuel pressure regulator valve and the fuel filter but it keeps happening. It can be fine for a couple of weeks then it happens, all times it appears at speeds of less than 35mpg.

Although I've a later model S80 and 2.0D my engine conked out several times because of an intermittent fault with the crankshaft sensor. When the dealer initially plugged in the diagnostic equipment there was not record of a fault but on one occasion after failing the rev counter didn't work and this led the technician to reaching this diagnosis.

Found out it was the diesel particulate filter. Lots of low revving driving around town causes this. Went for a blast on the motorway an allis fine.

Annoyingly the dpf dirty light did not illuminated to tell me this wasthe case
