Just bought a 340GL. I'm only 19 and I'm new to the Volvo scene.
I wondered what mods I may be able to carry out, I don't know how easy parts are to get for the old Volvos.
I want a set of 360GLT alloys if anyone has any and I want a tailgate spoiler.
It's a 5 door hatch with 66k on the clock. Full service history and in nr mint condition.

Hi Gremlin.
Good luck with the car. At 19 you do not want to mod it too much
for insurane purposes. 360 GLT alloys are getting hard to find now but 480 ones
look realy well on a 300. Some blokes swap the engines for more power.
Cheers Mark.

Yeah I've seen a lot of the F7R engine conversions but those are quite expensive. I just want subtle mods. Alloys, spoiler, probably lowering spring/blocks and that should do me nicely. It's just finding the parts. I haven't found anyone with a spoiler either so I guess they're stupidly hard to find too.

Cheers anyway

Not wanting to be nosey as to actual figures, but how does insurance costs compare to more modern 'starter cars' for your age group?

Hi welcome.
Get in contact with FoggyJames he's your man for 300's and modifying them. He's helped me with great info on doing an engine conversion in my 360.

Well I have 3 cars at the moment. my first car which I have owned for over 2 years is a 1994 Subaru Justy. 1st year was through a company for insurance and this year I am paying £1237 with a coupe mods.
I purchased a 98 Turbo 2000 Impreza last month which I am keeping until I can insure it. they want £19,000 for my own policy so that's not going anywhere :P

And then the Volvo, With holding a licence under 2 years, 3 points and no no claims I can get a 340 1.4 insured on a standard policy for £1200. A 340 1.7 for about £1450 and a 360GLT for around £1700.
But now I just swapped the 340 with my Justy as the Justy will spend a bit of time off the road until I get round to fixing it lol

More modern cars, umm. Well, take a Corsa C SXI with the 1.4. That I can get down to just under £1350 now so Volvo's are cheaper to insure. Although value for money, I can insure a Rover 75 with the 2.0 V6 for £1900.
Prices are all over to be honest.
Just a couple pics below of my motors

Lol, Impreza all the way. I'm a member of Bristol and Bath Scoobys. Ya can't beat the sound of the boxer on a turbo Scoob and I'm generally all about the Subaru's. The Volvo is for a bit of rear wheel drive fun and a run around while I fix my Justy. Although in that condition I'm getting to like the 340 so i don't know if I'll get rid of it yet haha

Just a few more pics. Had a car show on the seafront at Weston to day so took all 3 Also I use to own a blue Mercedes 280E. Made a small profit on it. Wish I never got rid of it.

That is a superb 340!

I wouldn't really bother modding it much, just keep it in good running order, good air filter, shocks+bushes etc but they do sound good with a straight though exhaust. Just change the back box to a cherry bomb or something, that will give feeling of power.
