Red face Well I never!!!!!!!!

Just rebuilding a Volvo S60 D5 2005 model at mo... it's been sitting around for a while with short start, stop driving around the body shop...so when I drove it on the open road for the first time the other day it spat out large amounts of white smoke when it reached running temp!...Two info came up on the message screen.
1) Soot filter full - see manual
2) ENGINE service required (Not the normal Regular Service message)
After about 30 mintues of driving the SOOT message disappeared (Which after reading the manual was correct)..so no probs here!...However the Engine service message was perm logged in the memory, so each time i started the car the message came on!
Spoke to 2x dealerships who stated that the message could only be cancelled by them on there computer!!!....Now the funny bit!...whilst messing about with putting in the glass/electric windows I ran down the battery (Message also came on to tell me this!)..this was not a problem, so i removed the Battery from the car and charged it accordingly. I left it off the car for 48 hrs...when i reinstated it in the car and turned on the ignition the Engine message has been wiped from the memory!!!!.....Well I never!

They aren't called "Stealers" for no reason ;-)

Along with disconnecting the battery, you can also reset the service light by the trip buttons - I think the details are posted as a sticky at the top of the forum.

Cheers...Yeah already aware of that one...however it was the 'ENGINE Service required message' which is different from the standard service message!....but well happy with the result!
