For any future googlers, I got two headphones for £23 including P&P. They work SO much better than the knackered old ones and the kids are very happy. These were they.

Now if I could just get my clicking issue sorted, I'd be a happy man...

Plugging in a 3.5mm audio jack into the AUX port disconnects the RSE audio.

On later XC90s, around 2011-ish, they added a switch to switch between AUX port and RSE.
I have just bought the 2011 XC90 with factory fitted DVD in centre console. DVD comes on but no sound through headphones plugged into the middle row stantion (can get the radio fine) Can I get the wired headphones to work? I don't know what switch I am looking for, there's nothing plugged into the AUX port, can I just select the AUX channel using the selector and have the whole car hear the film?

Or do I need to order wireless headphones and risk my kids leaving them on charge in random places.

Most of your questions are answered by the RSE Owners Manual, have you read it? A physical copy should be with the car, and a PDF can be found online or in the Volvo app on your smartphone
